JAZZ AO CENTRO CLUBE
JACC – Jazz ao Centro Clube is a Non for Profit Cultural Association active since 2003 and based in the city of Coimbra. Its main (foundational) mission is the promotion of Jazz and Improvised Music. Still, nowadays, it has expanded its activity to other artistic practices in connection with domains like education, heritage social inclusion and just urban development.
Shortly after it was created in Coimbra, in the context of the JAZZ AO CENTRO FESTIVAL (celebrating in 2022 its 20th edition), JACC started to embrace national level projects like the JAZZ.PT magazine (2005- ) and PORTUGAL JAZZ – ITINERANT JAZZ FESTIVAL (2007-2011). In 2010, JACC RECORDS was born.
In August 2012, after almost ten years of jumping from one place to another, JACC finally found the perfect place to develop a coherent musical program. SALÃO BRAZIL is located in the heart of Coimbra’s historical city centre and soon became one of the most suitable small size music venues in Portugal. Hosting 2/3 concerts per week and artistic residencies, SALÃO BRAZIL functions as a meeting point and a supportive and creative hub for artists of different disciplines.
SALÃO BRAZIL changed everything, fostering a “territorial turn” that led to a renewed thinking about the role of a small size venue in the context of urban cultural life. It led to the creation of JACC’s EDUCATIONAL SERVICE, which promotes projects like the COIMBRA SOUND ARCHIVE and the UNESCO COIMBRA CLUB: Art, Heritage and Community.
JACC runs with a staff of three permanent workers, although there are more than 15 persons directly involved in the daily work of its universe, from the venue to jazz.pt magazine.
JACC – Jazz ao Centro Clube is a Non For Profit Association based in Coimbra. It promotes jazz.pt magazine, a club called Salão Brazil, JACC Records, and Festivals like Jazz ao Centro and XJazz (in the Schist Villages Network, rural Portugal).
